Alder (Nursery) 2024 - 2025
Mrs Adie
Nursery teacher- Alder class
Welcome to our class page!
The Early Years are a really important stage in your child's learning and development, and we are here to support this.
Please see the files section for a publication which parents may find useful in identifying developmental milestones, entitled, "What to Expect, When?"
Each half term (approximately 6 weeks) we plan a range of activities to help the children explore and answer 'Learning Challenge' questions. These are carefully structured throughout the Nursery and Reception classes so that what the children are doing build's on their prior learning and will prepare them for Key Stage One. Here are the Nursery Learning Challenge Questions:
- Who am I and who are you?
- What is a sound?
- Can you tell me a story?
- Where in the World?
- What grows?
- Can you save the planet?
Here are some other useful links to support your child's learning and development:

Meaningful interactions with adults, including sharing books, forms the cornersone of children's understanding and use of language for communication. We encourage families to engage in lots of activities to develop talk in their home language. There are lots of suggestions of the bbc's website bbc.co.uk/tiny-happy-people
Regular book sharing is encouraged and supported both at home and at school. Our learning challenges centre around high-quality texts where children are introduced to specific vocabulary and we have a 'Reading Bingo' initiative.
Please also check the files section to find resources to support our daily activities and a PowerPoint presentation explaining how we teach the 'Unlocking Letters and Sounds' programme at Cale Green. You will also find a copy of the Satutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and a guide to using Tapestry, the online learning journal.
If you have any questions about your child's learning and development please feel free to speak to a member of the team.
Many thanks,
Mrs Adie
